"Having healthcare help postpartum, when your world is rocked and your brain isn’t functioning would be incredible. I was so overwhelmed with everything I had to do for my baby, I completely deprioritized my own health and skipped appointments. I ended up having undiagnosed ppd for over a year because I had no idea which of my doctors I was supposed to go to for help. Having someone checking in on me, clarifying options, directing me to where to go for me would have been life changing. I got round the clock support from our pediatrician for the baby but essentially 0 support for myself."

"Giving birth is a physical, mental, emotional, psychological, and spiritual experience. The support that every new mom and every new dad should have is apart of a total health package. Nutritionist and dietitian who truly prescribe a diet for optimal nutrition to grow a human, sustain yourself and heal after childbirth. Eating to live. Mental health specialists who can help you understand how life may change postpartum and the conversations that need to be held before. Also support through the sleepless nights postpartum. Access is to a Physical therapist and Trainer because there is a strong correlation between mood and physical health. Care services for the new baby and existing children. A mom taking time for herself to be better for her family is a requirement not a luxury."

"I gave birth this year and had to assemble my own “team”. It would be amazing if doctors could help with this - including pelvic floor therapists, mental health professionals, lactation consultants (perinatal being extremely important) and chiropractors."

"There is so much focus on the baby's wellbeing postpartum that it would be great to provide more resources to the mom. Even a simple check in about "what is going well, what is challenging". For example, you might respond with "breast feeding" and get connected to a lactation consultant or answer "sleep" and get connected to someone who can talk through options for sleep training, etc."

"It was exhausting to conduct internet searches in the post partum phase as I tried to figure out breastfeeding and assess how my personal recovery was going after birth. Having one person who is familiar with my medical history be a champion for me during those challenging first 6 months would have been huge. Dream scenario would be if they also acted a bit like a therapist and provided well being checks / tools to navigate the insane hormonal shifts."

"I wish I’d had more awareness of pelvic floor therapy during and after pregnancy. Support groups are vital (the breastfeeding support group I attended was a game changer). Nutrition is important but I think I’d have felt overwhelmed by trying to figure out how to eat right in the fourth trimester. I feel like therapy postpartum should be borderline mandated, but at the very least more available. Oh and traditional PPD/PPA screenings are garbage; I understand their importance in assessing extreme risk but for catching milder cases they’re trash."
